pitlochry dam

Pitlochry dam and power station were completed early in the post-WW2 development of hydro-electric power bringing electricity to the Highlands. It features a pioneering salmon ladder permitting these valuable but increasingly scarce fish to complete the annual migration to their spawning grounds in the rivers and burns above the dam.
The Festival Theatre tradition dates back more than 50 years when performances were given in a tent. The theatre is now housed in the splendidly contemporary structure pictured below where Pitlochry visitors are invited to "stay 6 days and see 6 plays" in a rolling repertory from May to October. It's also an excellent place to view Pitlochry, its surroundings and background of wooded hills while enjoying afternoon tea.
