At the Atholl Gathering each May the only officially sanctioned private army in Europe, the Atholl Highlanders, parades before its commander, the Duke of Atholl. The two-day event includes traditional highland games, pipe bands, highland dancing - an orgy of skirlin', whirlin', birlin', pechin', pantin', cursin' and violence to peaceful pasture!

August brings the Blair Castle International Horse Trials, Scotland's premier equestrian event, a three-day, three-star celebration of equestrian skills attracting some of the best riders and mounts in Britain.
