Unwinding and, with luck, bringing home dinner on the River Tummel where it flows through Pitlochry. The footbridge you can see across the river is a handy shortcut between the Birchwood and the Festival Theatre.

Pitlochry dam and power station were completed early in the post-WW2 development of hydro-electric power bringing electricity to the Highlands. It features a pioneering salmon ladder permitting these valuable but increasingly scarce fish to complete the annual migration to their spawning grounds in the rivers and burns above the dam.
